#Outfit: Iona, meet Megan.
Dude working at Starbucks just told me that he and his co-workers have been obsessing over my outfit since I came in this evening. Apparently it looks very Annie Potts as Iona in “Pretty in Pink”. She was one of my fashion inspirations growing up so I take it as a huge compliment! What do you think? It’s much more casual than what I usually wear, bright colours are necessary in the sunshine. And, after all - I’m an 80’s baby.

Turban time.
I think it’s funny that turbans are suddenly the new item on the style blogger scene. To say that an item that’s been part of culture all around the world is a trend seems a little ridiculous. To me, a turban is classic and reminds me of Casablanca or a religious item. Prada showed turbans as part of the Spring 2007 ready to wear collection and really brought them to the forefront, utilizing them as a new accessory. Jessica Stam rocks a turban but are they practical or can a non-model like me wear one, too?
I’ve always had a thing for turbans but to me they were more of a classic topper to an outfit, and something so shiny would be ridiculous on my giant head of hair. I bought a pale grey turban from Patricia Field in Fall 2009. The pale colour lends itself to be accessorized with clip on earrings. I wore the turban a few times during Toronto LG Fashion Week. In a sea of “what’s trendy now” rather than a lot of ensembles that screamed personal style, I stood out and didn’t care. I’m not sure I can wear it now as every blogger and their mother is wearing them. I probably wouldn’t wear it the same way now, funny how style evolves so quickly. The photos aren’t great, but what do you think - turbans instead of toques?
There’s something about Monday’s that make me want to dress like I’m going back to a fashionable private school. It’s time for me to get studious over blogs, book proposals, resumes and applications. Let’s hope the outfit inspires greatness, or at the very least, productivity.

John Daly’s Golf Steeze earns him WWD’s Man of the Week
Women’s Wear Daily is trying to reach out to my niche of choice, sports style, lately. I’ve been hot and cold on their work so far, and it’s not just because I’m slightly green with envy. It’s one thing to judge an outfit based purely on style, it’s another thing to understand the PGA and more importantly, Daly’s track record. Yes, it’s heinous but he’s worn much worse. His man boobs are under control, at the very least. After all, every sport needs a Craig Sager.
If you follow me on Twitter (my apologies) or read this Tumblr regularly, you know that fusing sports and style is kind of my thing. When it comes to personal style, I’m definitely not a jeans and t-shirts girl - it doesn’t flatter my short, curvy figure and I find the style to be kind of limiting. I also find t-shirts seem to feel like they’re choking me (I feel your pain, J-Woww but not your silicone). However, for a Monday night at work I wanted to do something fun yet casual and break out one of the super dope shirts I got from one of my favorite menswear brands, UNDRCRWN. While their size small tees are little big in the waist and shoulder, I find a sweater clip can make it work.
I decided on a kelly green with “Love Means Nothing” inscribed in felt across the chest and on the left sleeve. It’s from the Spring 2010 collection that UNDRCRWN put out under the same name, inspired by early ’90s tennis style. Think John McEnroe and Andre Agassi - you can check out the collection here. It’s a super comfortable shirt and I love the bright colour. I paired it with a tiered plaid mini skirt from Brazen Hussy, black cord blazer black tights, black suede buckle boots from Zara and my Super eyeglasses. It was a bit of a preppy mess but still cute. The shirt led to a lot of questions from co-workers who didn’t get the “Love Means Nothing” saying. Love, in tennis terms, equals zero on the scoreboard. So, it literally means nothing. Of course co-workers thought I was being just another bitter female, instead of an astute sports fan. They should know by now that I display by fandom through fashion - boys!
Now, that night in the NBA the Timberwolves were in Boston to face the Celtics. So naturally I thought it was cool (read: nerdy) that I was wearing a kelly green shirt with the word “Love” on it when the Celtics were playing the rebound machine, Kevin Love. For most of the game, the young and tenacious T-Wolves were leading the veteran C’s. Kevin Love was pulling down everything and finished with 24 boards. However, the Wolves relented down the stretch and ended up losing a tight game. So, Kevin Love ended up with nothing…but a loss and a nice stat line. My shirt ended up with double meaning - did the fact that it was CELTICS green jinx the poor Timberwolves? Naturally, my sports geek self felt incredibly guilty. I pledge to Kevin Love that I will not wear the shirt again when he plays the Celtics. Now, go make yourself an All-Star already. I’ll try not to have any more aesthetic slip ups.
PS. Sorry for the crappy photos. Hopefully I’ll get my iPhone 4 by the end of the week…Apple needs to step their stock up!
